Booking choice: The Rainforest Zipline tour, from $112 per person. Check dates Tour details
A zipline harness wraps your hips and thighs, you climb ladders to the platforms, and you walk uphill on uneven ground between lines. The parks are strict about clothes and shoes, and a swimsuit and sandals, the obvious Puerto Rico outfit, are exactly what the dress code rules out.
The rules below are from Rainforest Zipline Park's own site and its Viator listing; the other parks' listings say much the same.
The quick answer
Wear shorts, leggings or long pants, a T-shirt and closed shoes such as sneakers or hiking shoes, with long hair in a low bun or ponytail. Rainforest Zipline Park does not allow bathing suits, sandals, water shoes, toe shoes, skirts or a sports bra without a T-shirt. Bring a dry change of clothes, a reusable water bottle and some cash for tips.
What should you wear ziplining in El Yunque?
Shorts or leggings (short or long), or long pants, with a T-shirt: clothes that sit comfortably under a harness.
Pick something you do not mind getting dirty. One guest advises an old shirt, because grease from the zipline trolleys can flick onto clothes (it washed out). It is hot and humid in the foothills, so light, breathable fabrics work best.

Check dates for the Rainforest Zipline tourWhat is not allowed?
Bathing suits, sandals, water shoes, toe shoes and skirts; T-shirts are required, so no sports bra on its own.
Skirts and swimwear are on the not-allowed list. If you are heading to Luquillo Beach afterwards, bring the swimsuit in a bag.

Which shoes should you wear?
Closed shoes with a good grip: sneakers or hiking shoes.
You walk five to ten minutes uphill on uneven ground and climb straight-up ladders to the high platforms. Guests on the pickup tour mention several flights of steep steps, and one rider over 70 found the ladders more of a challenge than the zipping. ToroVerde's Monster zipline also requires closed shoes.
What about long hair, glasses and gloves?
Tie long hair in a low bun or ponytail so it sits under the helmet; the parks supply the helmet and harness.
Glasses are best on a strap. On fast lines, a guest at ToroVerde suggests goggles or eyewear because the speed makes your eyes water. Leave loose jewelry and hats in a locker.

What should you pack?
Pack light: you carry it, or leave it in a locker.
- A dry change of clothes, which the park recommends
- A reusable water bottle: there is a water fountain
- Allergy medication if you need it: the park warns there are many bees in the area
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
- Cash for tips, lockers and drinks
- Your booking confirmation and each rider's declared weight

Packed for dry land? The eight lines run at 10 AM, 1 PM and 3 PM every day.

Many riders do, but secure it: one guest recommends a phone holder around your neck if you want to film.
Guests also say the crew takes pictures during the tour, and the park sells photos through PicThrive. Lockers are available for anything you do not want on the lines.
Is it different on a waterslide or waterfall tour?
Yes, the opposite: El Yunque's river tours want quick-dry clothes and shoes that can get wet.
On the waterslide half day, a life jacket and helmet are mandatory and guests advise sneakers you do not mind ruining, because the trails get muddy. The Rocaliza waterfall rappel day recommends fast-dry clothes and closed-toe hiking sandals, old sneakers or water shoes. If you combine a zipline and a river tour, pack both sets.

What if it is very hot or rainy?
Expect heat, humidity and the odd shower: drink plenty and check the forecast the day before.
One guest felt faint from the heat on a humid day and staff brought cold water and helped her back to the office. A morning slot is cooler; JungleQui guests found a 9:30 tour breezy and shaded. Every zipline here cancels free up to 24 hours before. More on choosing a park in Rainforest Zipline vs JungleQui.
